Calendar of Events
The City of Globe celebrates the centennial of its incorporation this year. A variety of events will be held throughout the spring, including a theatrical production on the history of Globe, a dress ball, community picnic and more. See the Chamber website for dates, times and events as they are finalized.
January
Gila County Gem and Mineral Show
The show is held at the Gila County Fairgrounds, on Highway 60, three miles north of Globe. Held on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this popular show features loose stones as well as finished jewelry, lapidary equipment, books, tools, minerals and slabs. Antique and Quilt Show
Visit some of the state’s most fascinating historic homes and buildings, including some dating back to the late 1800s. Archeology Month
Celebrate Archeology Month at Besh-ba-Gowah and the Tonto National Monument ruins. Attractions include Native American entertainment and basket weaving. Refreshments served.

Gila County Championship Rodeo
The best cowboys and cowgirls compete in two days of professional rodeo events. Held at Gila County Fairgrounds off Highway 60 in Globe, this weekend event features a rodeo parade down Broad Street in historic downtown Globe on Saturday morning, and a dance at the fairgrounds on Saturday evening at 9 pm. Annual Miami Boomtown Spree
The weekend festivities feature the Arizona State Mining Championships. The fun kicks off with a parade on Friday, continuing until 9 pm with live entertainment, performances and a barbecue. A pancake breakfast at 7 am on Saturday marks the beginning of the day’s activities throughout the town. Starting at 9 am, the best miners in the state compete in such events as hand and machine drilling, spike driving and mucking. At stake is the title of Arizona State Mining Champion and the coveted Boomtown Spree belt buckle. The weekend also features cultural dancing, food, arts and crafts, live musical entertainment, bed races, car shows, basketball tournaments, a street dance, antique mining equipment displays, and a hosted Drive By Mine Tour. Herb Festival
The charming and enchanting Wing Memorial Herb Garden at Boyce Thompson Arboretum is the setting for this festival. Cinco de Mayo Festival
This full day of dance, music and entertainment commemorates traditional Mexican culture with Ballet Folklorico and mariachi music. Vendors and booths offer a variety of foods to satisfy your taste buds. There are children’s activities, the crowning of the Cinco de Mayo queen, and a street dance. Annual Gold-N-Oldies Car Show and Blues Fest
Twenty-nine classes of historic and unusual cars highlight the activities in historic downtown Miami. This free event features more than 200 classic cars displayed on Sullivan Street. Antiques, street rods and muscle cars are among the automobiles judged. A variety of other interesting and unusual vehicles are on hand, as well as musical entertainment, arts and crafts booths, door prizes and raffles, food and other vendors. WCISA Tree Climbing Championships
Expect to see impressive tree climbing when 30 of the top competitors from the southwest and Arizona compete in this two-day event. Events include aerial rescue, foot-work climb, throw-ball and belayed speed climb. Fiesta de Libertad
This day of family fun and entertainment recognizes the liberation of Mexico from Spain in 1821. It offers traditional Mexican Mercado with food, beverages, arts, crafts, antiques music and dancing. There will be several piñata breaks for the children, a salsa contest, and the World Famous Chihuahua Races, with a Wanna-Be costume contest for dogs who wish they were Chihuahua for the day. Bye-Bye Buzzards
A signature event for the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, this autumnal salute to its migrant flock of turkey vultures is held just before they fly south to Mexico for the winter. Come learn more about these misunderstood scavenger birds. A guided birdwalk and a live exhibit of birds, reptiles and small mammals will round out the day. Annual Gila County Fair
Held at the Gila County Fairgrounds, three miles north of Globe on Highway 60, the fair features a beef cook-off, rodeo, arts and crafts, school exhibitions, live musical entertainment, games, carnival and more! The fun starts at noon on Thursday with 4-H livestock judging and a salsa contest, continuing into the evening with the All American Beef Cookout, where visitors can sample the recipes of chefs looking for bragging rights for the coming year. Livestock judging and entertainment round out the day.
Friday is Old Fashioned Fair Night. Come for the games and the Businessmen’s Coed Calf Dressing contest. Competition continues on Saturday with the Gila County Ranch Rodeo, featuring five-member teams with at least one female participant from regional ranches. Buckles are awarded to winners. Rodeo action begins at 9 am and Saturday evening features live entertainment.
On Sunday the 4-H Leaders Council provides a barbecue at noon, followed by the 4-H Livestock Auction at 1 pm. Throughout the weekend, enjoy the displays of agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, homemaking arts, domestic science, ceramics and porcelains, fine arts, photography, and school exhibitions. Holy Angels Annual School Carnival
Each year the Holy Angels Parochial School holds its school carnival fundraiser in historic downtown Globe. Annual Apache Jii (Day) Celebration
The Apache Jii (Day) Celebration takes place in Globe on historic downtown Broad Street from 9 am to 5 pm. Artisans and some of the state’s best Native American performers honor members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. Featured entertainment includes Native American singing, dancing and storytelling, all representing the rich heritage of the Southwest. Scheduled appearances include dancers, a flutist, singers, and the famous Apache Crown Dancers. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and camcorders to capture the drama.
In addition to live entertainment, more than 100 booths feature Native American art, jewelry, clothing, dolls, pottery and crafts for display and sale. Artisans demonstrate their skills in basket weaving, cradle board making, drawing and painting. A food court features traditional cuisine such as fry bread, Indian tacos, and Apache acorn stew. Jailhouse Rocks
The second Saturday in October features a fun fundraising party in historic downtown Globe. Two of downtown’s most unique structures dating from territorial Arizona – the former Gila County Courthouse of 1906 and former Sheriff’s Office and Jail of 1910, are the settings. Guests attend a courtroom drama presented by the Copper Cities Community Players in the historic courtroom of the former courthouse, now the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts. From there, guests are “sentenced” to a night in the historic Gila County Jail.
After being booked, guests enjoy an outdoor evening of DJ’d tunes from the era, dancing, live performances, special appearances, and jailhouse-inspired fun and nostalgia. 1950s prom or sock-hop attire is encouraged. Indian National Finals Rodeo

Annual Globe-Miami Reunion
This three-day reunion, started in 1980 by former Globe-Miami semi-pro baseball players, has been called by several names – Old-Time Globe-Miami Baseball Players Reunion and the Globe-Miami Old-Timers Reunion. As many former residents attend the celebration as local people. The weekend is celebrated with registration and a dance on Friday, a dinner and dance on Saturday evening, and menudo breakfast and dancing on Sunday morning. Live music is featured each day. Fall Plant Sale
Fall is the time to plant herbs and begin working on spring flowers. Come talk to the experts and stock up for your garden during this annual fundraiser. Staff horticulturists and Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and answer plant questions.
Fall Festival and Ghosts of Globe Tour
The tour is held on Halloween night, on special occasions, and in conjunction with other events (i.e. Home Tour). The guided walking tour begins at the Old Gila County Jail, with tours leaving at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes. Participants hear ghost stories, legends and interesting tidbits of history pertaining to buildings in the historic downtown area. The tour takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete, and participants should wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the elements. The cost is $5 per person and advance tickets may be purchased. San Carlos Veterans’ Parade Fair and Rodeo
The Apache Gold Casino and the San Carlos Apache Tribe honor veterans from Friday through Sunday during their annual veterans’ celebration. There is an all-Indian rodeo, a full-scale carnival, children’s activities and rides, a huge parade, a Pow Wow, food and more. Arboretum Live Music Festival
Arizona musicians play live music, both acoustic and electric, from 10 am to 3 pm at several points along the main trail. Grand Canyon State singers and songwriters treat visitors to a variety of sounds, instruments and styles. The Historic Globe Main Street Program presents the biggest little town light parade in Arizona from 7 pm to 9 pm on the second Saturday. Festival of Lights
Besh-ba-Gowah Archeological Park celebrates the holiday with more than 1,400 luminarias illuminating the walls of this Salado restoration. Each year a different holiday program is featured. There will be holiday decorations, Native American storytellers and dancers, and Santa Claus for the little ones. Light refreshments are served.
