The Copper Cities Community Players presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on May 12, 13, 19, and 20 at the Old Courthouse Theater in Globe. This musical comedy pits a colorfully zany group of junior high students against each other in a spell-off in fictional Putnam County. There’s William Barfee (be sure to pronounce his name like “parfait”) who spells words with his foot. In stiff competition is over-achiever Marcy Park, a martial arts baton twirler. Then there’s home-schooled Leaf Coneybear whose overprotective mother sent him to the bee in a helmet, just in case. These are a few of the quirky characters that sing and dance their way up to the microphone as they attempt to out spell each other and members of the audience. All of the actors in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are from the local area. You’ll spot some familiar faces from previous Community Players productions, but there’s newer talent, as well. Evening performances are 7PM with a matinee on Saturday, May 13 at 2PM. Tickets for evening performances are $20 and available at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts. Please contact JoNell Brantley at 928-425-8111 for more information.
