Reserve spaces soon, ahead of the 66th annual Gila County Gem & Mineral Society’s rock-gem-mineral show and sale Jan. 12-14. Once again the Gila County Fairground is host venue for the event treasured by rock and mineral collectors, fossil hobbyist and kids of all ages. The show runs from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Friday and Saturday, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Sunday. Special guest John O’Brien will host ‘what is a fossil?’ presentations all three days at 1:00 p.m., and Nathan Scholtend will demonstrate stone carving with jade throughout the show’s three days.
Students and children admitted free
Adults with a $3 donation per person
Browse specimen display cases, attend demonstrations of silversmithing, lapidary and wire-wrapping; visit with vendors displaying and selling their wares ranging from lapidary equipment to jewelry, books, mineral specimens, copper art and much more. Bring extra cash for tasty food! Globe-Miami Elks Lodge # 489 will have breakfast burritos available each, and a lunch menu throughout the afternoon.
Additional activities room adventure and fun include:
*The Fossil and Gem Pit: Your child can dig through our sand pits full of fossils and gemstones and try to find as many specimens as they can per minute and of course what they find they keep!! (Small Fee)
*Copper Trees: Decorate your own tree with rocks, gemstones and beads (Small Fee)
*Duck Pond: Catch a duck and see what prize you won. (Small Fee)
