Guest speaker is Senior Federal District Court Judge Rayes who will talk about growing up in Globe, the military and civilian judicial systems and where they fit in the US Constitution, his experiences in the Army JAG and how he became a judge. As a young man working in the copper mines of Globe-Miami, Senior Judge Douglas L Rayes went on to graduate from ASU, then went into the Army Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG). As a lawyer in the JAG he had a wide range of serious felony cases including conspiracy to sell military night scopes to the IRA, murder as well as a case of attempted murder of a young woman that led to German prosecutors pursuing the the defendant for serial murders of young German women. In his private practice, because his firm had agreements with FOPs, he represented police officers and Sheriff deputies across the state. His career as a judge began in the Maricopa County Superior Court where he created one of the first Veterans Courts in the state. It was from there that he was appointed in 2014 to the United States District Court for Arizona. Now a Senior Judge, Judge Rayes has presided over some high profile and controversial cases.
Join us Thursday, July 3, 2025, in welcoming this history making son of Globe-Miami (GHS Class of 1970)!

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the ride of Paul Revere, and the first shot fired in the American Revolution; coined the “Shot heard round the world” by the poet Emerson. This is also the theme for this year’s Independence Day Parade. We are inviting all local businesses and residents to participate in the parade. So, let’s get those floats (horses, cars, motor cycles, bikes and bands) ready and become a part of this history.
After the parade there will be many activities taking place at the Miami Veteran’s Memorial Park. The parade starts at 7:30 am and the events will continue until 6:00 pm.
Saturday July 5, 2025 we will continue to celebrate handmade goods and “rustic living skills” presented at the OLD TOWN FAIR EVENT from 1:00 pm till 10:00 pm. We are looking for Crafters, Food Vendors and Demonstrators. Show and sell your handmade items.
