About the Event
Bring your kiddos to slide, swing, climb, play and test the new playground equipment Friday afternoon March 8 at Miami Veterans Memorial Park! Town Council members and Town Manager Alexis Rivera announced they’ll have free food, music, raffles and more -- celebrating with a ribbon-cutting to open the new playground, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. Now the park even has a sand volleyball court! And there’s so much more happening in Miami during the weekend of March 8-10. All three days local creative, crafty vendors will fill the spacious lobby of the Miami Mercantile YMCA from Friday-through-Sunday from 10am-4pm each day. Do you love to crochet? Every Saturday there’s a weekly crochet circle, also at the YMCA, and upstairs in the Green Room from 11am-1pm. Also all three days of the coming weekend guests are invited to stopby for punch and cake to celebrate the grand opening of a new business: the Surprise Thrift & Gift Shop at the corner of Sullivan Street and Keystone Avenue from 10am-4pm each day.
* Bullion Plaza Speaker
March 8 at 6:00 pm ‘Western Apache Heritage’ is the subject for an evening presentation at Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum, where two special guest speakers are scheduled for this excellent local once-a-month lecture series. Learn about Western Apache culture, people, history and heritage from local author Thea Wilshire and Mary Kindelay. Bullion Plaza presentations are always free; donations are much appreciated.
* Second Saturday on Sullivan Street
March 9 Second Saturday events in downtown Miami include live music at the Keystone Street vendor and music block, this month featuring Phoenix indie rock bands Steen and Dutch Holly, from 10am-3pm. A new photography show at Miami Arts Works Gallery features Tucson photographers Mark Hahn and Jenny Comerci, and businesses are open along Sullivan Street. Saturday also brings the return of open mic at Miami Art Works, hosted by Lob Instagon, and this month Phoenix poet Tracy Thomas is the featured reader. Signups begin at 4:30 pm, open mic starts 5:15.
