About the Event

Gila County Historical Museum’s 7th Annual event has expanded across two weekends this Fall, and includes several partnering organizations including the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts in Globe, Bullion Plaza in Miami, and downtown Globe venues. This annual tribute to ranching and mining includes speakers, historical re-enactment, and guided tours of Globe's popular Stairizona Trail.

Event Schedule:

 

Oct. 4, Friday: Globe High School homecoming parade at noon on Broad Street downtown.

Oct. 5, Saturday: Tribute to Mining speakers at the Gila County Historical Museum starts with a 'Copper 101' presentation at 9:00 a.m., Carlota Copper Operations' speaker at 10:00, Resolution Copper Company Speaker at 11:00, Capstone Pinto Valley speaker at 1:00, Freeport McMoran Miami Smelter Operation speaker at 2:00.

 * 8:00 a.m. walking tour of the Stairizona Trail guided by Thea and Regina; call (808)373-0032 for details and where to meet

Oct. 11, Friday: 'Ranch Women: a Discussion on Ranch Life in Gila County" from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with panelists Linda Haught Ortega, Jacque Cline Sanders, Velma Tucker and Linda Brost Griffin -- living history narrated by women who grew up ranching, and kin to generations of ranchers who settled this region.

 

also: Bullion Plaza Cultural Center in Miami's Second Friday speaker at 6:30 p.m. is author Lee Ann Powers on the topic '101 Ways to Die' narrating sad and unique ways people died in Territorial early years, from lovesick cowboys to tragic miners.

 

Oct. 12, Saturday: A Photographic Look at Mining open house and gallery exhibit at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. showcases historic mining photos from the Copper Hills region.

Copper Cities Players local theatre troupe presents "Tales from the 1904 Globe Flood" - a historic event that destroyed much of downtown Globe and claimed many lives, re-enacted during 30-minute performances from the actors on the third floor of the art center. Performance times are To Be Announced
